Peter Dormer writes "Given the context of minimalist sculpture ...then Hine's constructed bench has the right appearance.It could fulfil the current conventions of a contemporary urban museum of art by appearing cerebral. And, of course, it is cerebral, but in today's cultural politics it makes sense to look, as well as be, cerebral. Hine's work is, legitimately, seeking...the appearance of function and the appearance of art."
